Please join us for the opening reception for Alma Entre Dos Mundos, an exhibition that brings together the work of Amina Cruz and Aldo Cervantes.
Working across Los Angeles and San Diego/Tecate, respectively, Cruz and Cervantes utilize the photographic medium to investigate the omnipresent feeling of being caught between the worlds of the United States and Mexico. The artists capture built, communal, and natural landscapes to reflect on the intimate processes of healing and mourning both within their personal communities and shared spiritual connections along the borderlands. The exhibition’s title borrows the words of Chicana cultural theorist Gloria Anzaldúa as an homage to her critical investigations on the entangled colonial, gendered, and spiritual legacies of the U.S.-Mexico border.
