SUMMARY:Alma Entre Dos Mundos
DESCRIPTION:The MexiCali Biennial is pleased to announce Alma Entre Dos Mundos as part of the PARA/normal Borders program at the MXCL BNL LAB. Bringing together the work of Amina Cruz and Aldo Cervantes\, the exhibition examines the U.S.-Mexico border as a porous site between spiritual realms. Working across Los Angeles and San Diego/Tecate\, respectively\, Cruz and Cervantes utilize the photographic medium to investigate the omnipresent feeling of being caught between the worlds of the United States and Mexico. The artists capture built\, communal\, and natural landscapes to reflect on the intimate processes of healing and mourning both within their personal communities and shared spiritual connections along the borderlands. The exhibition’s title borrows the words of Chicana cultural theorist Gloria Anzaldúa as an homage to her critical investigations on the entangled colonial\, gendered\, and spiritual legacies of the U.S.-Mexico border.  \nThis exhibition is curated by Armando Pulido. \nCLICK FOR PRESS RELEASE.
